Featured Student: Casson Lin
Casson Lin Ka Shun was one of the first
intake graduates from the Stanford
Financial Engineering Program in Hong
Kong. Having been admitted to the Stanford
MS degree program for the coming fall 2009, Casson will
pursue the MS study mostly part-time in Hong Kong. He will
consider spending one semester at the Stanford campus.
Casson first received his bachelor degree in Business
Administration from Simon Fraser University in Canada. Upon his
return to Hong Kong, Casson started out his career in KPMG as an
external auditor. He is currently a Cost Management Information
Analyst at the Global Banking Markets, the investment arm of the
Royal Bank of Scotland. His key responsibilities include
evaluating and analyzing the performance of different business
units and products to streamline and improve the performance of
the consolidated (post acquisition of ABM AMRO) entity in Asia
Pacific. He has been involved in managing and overseeing the
financial and operational information. Prior to joining RBS,
Casson also spent some time at the Business Management Group
at Morgan Stanley overseeing the financials and managing various
projects at the Information Technology department.
Casson's motivation for joining the Stanford Financial
Engineering program comes from his desire to combine his strong
analytical and computer skills with the interest in finance.
After completing the FE program, Casson served as a Graduate
Teaching Assistant providing teaching support to the classes in
Hong Kong.
¡§It was definitely a challenging and stimulating experience.
Nowadays companies are leaning toward hiring individuals who can
be immediately productive. The Stanford FE program helped me
develop a strong and smooth transition across different career
alternatives.¡¨ Casson said.
Upon completion of the Stanford MS program, Casson intends to
apply his analytical and quantitative skills to derivative
trading and risk management of complex equity products in a
leading investment bank or hedge fund.
The 5th intake is
scheduled to kick off in September 2010.
